Available Tools

External tools are an easy way to add new features to Canvas.  They can be added to individual courses, or to all courses in an account.  Once configured, you can link them through course modules and create assignments.

Canvas supports the integration of external tools using the IMS LTI standard. When an external tool is launched, some student information may be passed along to the external tool provider. The standard dictates the types of information passed and how they are passed. When integrating Canvas with external tools, all efforts are made to minimize the student data transferred and to vet the security practices of the tool vendor.

However, with the exception of official Emory IT tools such as Office 365 and Box, most 3rd party tools are not governed by Emory University’s Information Technology office. Although it is Emory’s policy to protect student privacy, please understand that Emory does not guarantee the privacy of information shared on external 3rd party applications. Information you provide may be visible to others using this application. You are not required to provide personal information. By signing in and sharing information, you imply your understanding of potential privacy risks.

ALEKS ALEKS is an artificial intelligent assessment and learning system which uses adaptive questioning to quickly and accurately determine exactly what a student knows and doesn’t know in a course. ALEKS’s includes external assignments that pass grades back into Canvas.
Ares (Library Course Reserves) Copyrighted content can only be shared using the Library Course Reserves system.  This is a University requirement, see FAQ.  Course Reserves is a fast and effective tool for faculty and students which automates library reserve services and provides around-the-clock access to reserves collections.
Badgr Badgr is a badging system that lets you issue credentials and recognition to learners as they complete tasks within your Canvas course. Badging helps students track their progress and skill development while building intrinsic motivation to complete assignments and milestones.
Barnes & Noble The Barnes & Noble College integration can help you streamline the course material adoption process and make it easier for your students to access course materials. Once you’ve made your course material selections through the integration, and submitted them to the bookstore, your students can quickly purchase or rent the titles they need from the bookstore website directly through their courses in Canvas.
Box Emory Box is an Emory-wide implementation of the popular Box.net file sharing and collaboration tool that is tailored to Emory and uses Emory credentials for access. It’s available to all active faculty, staff, and students with a goal of fostering collaboration inside the Emory community and with external higher education and research partners.
Cengage Engage

The Cengage Learning integration provides you and your students with seamless access to our premier learning solutions using only your LMS credentials.

Echo ALP The EchoCenter is a content portal used by Echo360 faculty and students to access their rich media recordings and for faculty to view usage statistics for the captured lectures.
i>Clicker iClicker An iClicker is a radio frequency device that allows a student to anonymously respond to questions your instructor poses in class. This lets you and your instructor quickly know how well you understand the lesson material.
Respondus LockDown Browser Respondus LockDown Browser® is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment within the LMS. When students use LockDown Browser they are unable to print, copy, go to another URL, or access other applications. When an assessment is started, students are locked into it until they submit it for grading.
Macmillan Higher Education

Macmillan Higher Education offers deep content integration between its LaunchPad products and Canvas. This robust integration creates direct links from a Canvas course into the Macmillan LaunchPad environment.

Office 365

This integration allows students and instructors to use, create, share, and collaborate on Office 365 files from their Emory accounts within Canvas.

OneDrive This app will enable students to submit homework assignments to Canvas from their Institution Office 365 OneDrive account.

Piazza Piazza

Piazza is a new style of discussion/Q&A site with a focus on educational institutions. This integration adds a link to the course navigation for Piazza discussions, and auto-logs the user into the course discussions area.

Search publicly available YouTube videos. A new icon will show up in your course rich editor letting you search YouTube and click to embed videos in your course material.
