Exporting Content from Blackboard

As we begin the final academic semester of support for Blackboard, the Teaching & Learning Technologies team has created some strategies to help faculty, staff and students successfully and safely export content for use either in Canvas, Box or for local archiving. Even if you are not a Canvas user, you should export your stored personal and course content from Blackboard before the system is decommissioned.

Blackboard’s Retirement

Blackboard will be available in the summer of 2017, but course shells will not be provisioned automatically for summer courses. Canvas will be the only supported Learning Management System in the fall 2017 semester, and Blackboard content will be completely unavailable after Aug. 31, 2017.

Even if you do not plan on using Canvas, we recommend that you export your content from Blackboard for local archiving. After Aug. 31, 2017, there will be no way to recover deleted or un-exported data from Blackboard. The Teaching & Learning Technologies team strongly recommends that you start creating and downloading exports of your Blackboard materials ASAP as this process can take some time.

Exporting Store & Share Content from Blackboard

There are several ways to save materials from Blackboard. The most common method to save a course or organization’s uploaded or attached files is to log in to classes.emory.edu and click on the Store & Share tab at the top of the screen.

Store & Share will present you with a list of categories for your personal, course and organization uploads.  If you click on each arrow you will find a list of the ids of courses and organizations to which you have permission to access.

To Export Content:

  1. Under course or organization content, click on the arrow to the left and then click on your Course ID.
  2. Use the check boxes to select all files or folders you would like to download. If selecting All make sure you scroll to the bottom right of the screen and note the number of items listed and select Show All to view all items on one page to select.
  3. Click on the Download Package button. This will download a zip file containing the selected files to your computer. You can save this .zip file to Box or your local computer for archival purposes. Once downloaded, you can double-click on the zip file to access its contents.

More info on Store & Share files and options can be found here:  http://it.emory.edu/blackboard/faculty/store_share/index.html
